An Official Moorish Holiday
Moabitess Day
May 17, 2009
Moabitess Day is a day that we don't only celebrate
our Ancient Mothers, but we celebrate the Sisters; young and old. Why you might ask? Sisters give birth to the Nation
or better put from out of the Sisters a Nation is born.
Moabitess Day
represents what a Moabitess Sister within the Moorish Science Temple of America is all about. A famous Sister is Ruth the Moabitess from the Holy Bible. Most of us in this Christian Society has heard about her
story. She was the daughter-in-law to Naomi and later on she married Boaz. Then she became the great grandmother of King David
who was of the lineage of Prophet Jesus. Now I find that interesting that in Jesus earthly lineage his great grandmother Ruth
was indeed a Moabitess. But that is another story also. So getting back to Ruth the Moabitess one of the
most famous and heart wrenching two verses in this chapter of the book of Ruth chapter one were verses 16 & 17.
Ruth 1:16-17, And
Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee for whither thou goest I
will go and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. (17)Where
thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ougth but death part thee and
me.
I don't know about you, but I can feel the power and the sincerity in Ruth's words
to Naomi her mother-in-law. Ruth was not just a daughter-in-law to Naomi she had become a loving, loyal and devoted friend
and daughter in every sense of the word. Ruth told her the only thing that will separate me from leaving your side is death.
How strong a statement was that! She was a friend that stuck closer to Naomi then her own flesh and blood.
So looking
at these verses it's so clear to see what the name of Ruth means: loving friend, loyal daughter, companion, someone to be
trusted, honest, she was devoted. All Ruth cared about was Naomi's welfare and not leaving her side. She stopped thinking
about herself and what she would face when she got to Naomi's home in Bethlehem Judah. Ruth was a Moabitess from Moab.
She
pleaded with Naomi, Entreat me not to leave thee, that was a desperate plead from the heart of Ruth
the Moabitess. When Naomi saw Ruth's undying love and loyalty to her, she stopped and just accepted the fact that
Ruth wasn't going to leave her side. Ruth told Naomi, "the only thing that will separate me from you is death." Ruth had been
listening to the stories of Naomi's God and her words had taken root in Ruth's heart. She wanted Naomi's God to be her God
too. What loving devotion and loyalty. This stirs the inner being and we can feel the love.
If only we all could
develop that kind of loyal-friendship and have that kind of love, sacrifice, dedication and devotion to one another; the world
would be an awesome place to live in.
